La marque Indian imprègne l'histoire motocycliste américaine mais également européenne. La plus ancienne marque de motos américaines créée en 1901, soit deux ans avant sa principale concurrente Harley Davidson. En 1910 la société fabricant les Indian est devenue la première compagnie productrice de motos au monde. Elle a connu un arrêt de production en 1953. La marque Indian est actuellement en plein relancement depuis quelques années.
Elle revit et prospère à nouveau grâce à la société "Polaris Industries". La marque est repartie à la conquête des marchés et des fans, en restant fidèle à l'esprit d'origine. L'ouvrage est construit de manière chronologique, découpé en fonction des étapes majeures vécues par la marque. Les iconographies proviennent des archives de l'auteur et de la marque Indian.
